DV-in enabler for Sony Digital 8 & DV Camcorders

What
is DV-in ? :
The camcorders sold in Europe are voluntarily DV-in desabled
by the manufacturer what avoids to him paying a surtax (a video
camera with DV-IN is regarded as a video tape recorder). In
Europe all this camcorders have the recording function desabled
. The video cameras are found then with inactive inputs but
requiring only one small modification to be reactivated. The
activation of digital input (DV-IN) makes it possible to be
able to record from a ieee1394 source i.e. another digital video
camera for a digital copy without loss or well starting from
a DV capture card ( or Mac with firewire ) . Without the activation
of DV-in you can make acquisition via a DV ieee1394 card on
your PC or Firewire Mac but you cannot record your video editing
from hard drive on your Dv or Digital8 tape... After editing
your work can't be saved , DV Format having a flow of 220mo/min
(3 minutes / CDR!) you will not be able to make large thing
of it if you make a point of keeping original quality! Moreover
certain DV cards as the DV Raptor not having hardware codec
are useful of that of the video camera... with the proviso of
having an DV input...
What is analog-in
? :
It is a question here of using the analog inputs of the camcorder
to be able to record a composite or svhs PAL signal from a DVD
reader , a video tape recorder, a video camera hi8 /vhs / svhs
, the TV .....
Legal note and
guarantee :
Enabling input is a legal operation!
it is simply a question of being able to make video editing
with its camcorder. This operation is reversible, it thus does
not have there a problem with the guarantee.
The DV-in
: For which Sony products ?
Le DV-in
concerns the majority of
the digital SONY camcorders ( see list ). Only the most expensive
models like theTRV900 and PC100 have these inputs of origin.
L'analog-in
is enabled ONLY on the DIGITAL8
series ( in addition to DV-in ) .
NB : Certain
models are not inputs enabled without hardware intervention
( case of the PC10E ) . Some others depend of serial numbers
(case of theTRV9E, VX1000E, VX9000E, SC100E)
How to do
?
A cable between a PC under
Windows 95 / 98 / Me and your camcorder makes it possible to
reprogram certain registers. Fcosinus provides you the cable

. The owners of Mac with firewire input will be able to use
their camcorder without problem but need a PC for DV-in enable
operation .
